The Lord is my provider

Week five in Guatemala was truly incredible. Thanks be to God, for his mercies are new every day. I learned so much about the Lord being the provider of my strength, of my energy, of my words, and of my worship. On Sunday I was given the opportunity to lead worship at church. I sang four songs completely in Spanish all by myself, and it was incredible. Not because I pronounced all the lyrics right or even because I sounded good, but because the Holy Spirit guided my words & worship so it would honor him. To be completely honest, I was terrified to sing in only spanish, but the Lord provided everything I needed for that moment. Thanks be to God that he chooses to use broken vessels to carry his gospel.

Not only did he provide me with a healthy voice & words to sing on Sunday, harvest this week has been really sweet. My entire time I’ve been here, the spanish language has been a road block I thought I couldn’t get past. I try to be a perfectionist in everything I do, so I was always to speak up in Spanish because I knew I would say something wrong, use the wrong word, or use the wrong conjugation. But on Monday, the Lord reminded me that I have all authority in His name, and the best way to learn how to speak spanish is to learn from my mistakes whilst speaking. So this week, I spoke. The Holy Spirit gives me the vocabulary to say what I want to say, and I try to phrase it the best I can. And you know what? They understand, and instead of making fun of my broken spanish, they are thankful for what I say.

This week for me has been proof that when I wait on the Lord, he will give me all the tools I need to carry his gospel to the nations. It comes at the right time!

My favorite story from Harvest this week was one about Vanessa. Vanessa lives on the same street as our ministry, so we hiked to the top of the hill (image below) to visit her on Tuesday. Vanessa’s husband was severely injured in an accident over a year ago, and was left paralyzed from the waist down. He recently had to go back to the hospital because his legs started twisting and it was causing him a lot of pain. Because the hospital he is at is almost two hours away, Vanessa is on her own most of the time. She is having to provide for her children and raise them all on her own. She is very depressed and discouraged a lot of the time because her husband is not there. We got to encourage her, read a story of hope with her, and I got to share my testimony with her. (this is the first time I have gotten to share my testimony in spanish all by myself which was amazing). We began to pray over Vanessa for strength and she completely broke down and started to sob. We held her up, all of us praying and singing “Yeshua” over her. I started to cry and so did a lot of the others in our group. The Holy Spirit was tangible in that moment. As we were holding her up, He was holding us. It was a beautiful moment.

• That this next week (the town will be celebrating Saint Anthony and basically party every day) the chains of alcohol would not enslave our community and that the Holy Spirit would move in the hearts of many.

• For the safety of the Newspring Church team that is coming to stay with us for a week!

• That the Holy Spirit would keep moving in our community and we would see more people redeemed, restored, and healed!
