Week One in Guate
The Lord is steadfast.
This week has been edifying, to say the least. When I arrived I had no idea what the Lord had in store for me, or even what I would be doing. It turns out, I would be doing a whole lot of everything. I have been taking TONS of pictures for the ministry website and social media (follow us at nhgministries and check out our website nhgm.org). I have also been meeting with community members in the harvest, which looks like sitting down with Guatemalans and asking them how they are doing, what the Lord is doing them in their life, teaching them about scripture and then “vision casting” which means setting a goal for sharing the gospel with others throughout the week. We met with Marita and her family, Juana and her family, and Gustavo, a thirteen year old who lives in San Andres!
I am learning the importance of obedience, even when I don’t understand why the Lord tells me to do something. The power of abiding and continually surrendering everything to feet of Jesus is real.
How the Lord works through Ninja Turtles
Tuesday, we finished meeting with our harvest appointments early so we prayer walked in the community, which practically looks like wandering around town in our groups and asking the Lord to put someone in our path that needs prayer. A little boy, maybe four or five, was playing in the street with a ninja turtle shirt, so I told him hello and that I liked his ninja turtle shirt. Another guy in my group began to talk to him too, and then the little boy’s mom popped her head out the door to see what gringos were talking to her son. The little boys grandma came outside too, and greeted us with a smile. We began to introduce ourselves to them and asked the grandmother if she needed prayer. Her husband, Don Luis, was very sick and they had been praying THAT MORNING for someone to come and pray for them, since their family was very discouraged and exhausted. Alma (the grandmother) invited us in and we shared the gospel with the family, shared our testimonies, and laid hands on Don Luis for healing. It was such a cool, Holy Spirit led time and I know that the Lord has plans to heal Don Luis, either here on earth or in Heaven. Either way, the Lord’s name be glorified!
So much else has happened this week, but it is too much to write! If you want to hear more, reach out and ask. I’d love to share more of the Lord’s goodness.
Prayer Requests:
That the spanish language comes to me quickly so I am able to communicate with ease!
That Don Luis would be healed.
That Gustavo, the thirteen year old in our community would have opportunities to share the gospel this week.
That Juana, a mom of one of the harvest groups we meet with would have the burdens of her children’s debts relieved from her shoulders.
Love you all!
