Birmingham, AL
I served in Birmingham when working for Pine Cove City Camp in July of 2023!
To be completely honest with you, when I found out that we would be in Alabama for 3/5 weeks of camp, I was not thrilled. I had never been to Alabama, and had never heard great things.
BOY WAS I WRONG.
Birmingham is the cutest city. Sure, there are some parts you probably shouldn’t go after dark, but that’s in every city. REVIVAL is happening in Birmingham. People are hungry for change in their city, and they are excited for what the Lord is doing in their community.
Week seven of camp, we were in Hoover, Alabama, which is a rural suburb of Birmingham. At camp, I was on p-staff, which basically means I helped serve in any way I could. I also got to do some fun stuff like rap on stage and play cool music!
Our last stop in Birmingham was also the last week of camp. The church we got to serve at was truly remarkable. They had turned an old baptist church that was not reaching any of their surrounding community into a new, redeemed church focused on outreach to the local community! It was so cool to see the generational differences between the congregation, and how they all were on fire for the Lord!
If anything, the last week of camp gave me so much hope. Hope for my campers, hope for my fellow counselors, and hope for christianity in the US. It’s definitely not perfect, but Jesus followers all over the country are abiding in the Lord, and that’s all that matters.
Week eight of camp WAS SO FUN! I got to lead a group of six and seven year old girls who were truly so so sweet and wanted to learn so much about Jesus. We were in Vestavia, Alabama, which is a more well off part of town, but these kids were just as eager and excited to learn about the bible. One of the relationships I made with one of my campers here was probably one I will never forget!
Vestavia was also very sweet to my heart because I made some lasting friendships with girls that were also after the Lord’s heart. Meaningful community devoted to the King of Kings is what means the most on the mission field!
