Lydia
The life of Lydia (what i imagine her life to look like based on Acts 16, Proverbs 31, and Psalm 46)
She sits at the river, praying. She is a worshipper of God. She sells fine linens and provides for her household. She honors the laws of the Lord and trusts in His promises to her. He tells her, “I am coming.” And so she sits at the river in wait of Him, praying sabbath after sabbath. I trust that this is her prayer:
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when the morning dawns.
Psalm 46:4&5
“Make my soul like this river, O God. Dwell in the midst of me, and let me be your holy habitation.”
And Lydia, a worshipper of God, one who fears the Lord and is to be praised, praying by the river to her King, was met by Jesus through the mouth of Paul, and saved by our Lord and Savior. She was baptized, and her entire household was baptized, in what I can only imagine to be the same river she prayed by, sabbath after sabbath.
So all of those early mornings, those days where it’s hard to be a mom and go to work and live as a christ follower, she was strengthened because the LORD delighted in her, and her soul was the home of his Holy Spirit dwelling in the midst of her. And she was not moved.
